BRIEF
The Metro Spirit was Augusta, Georgia’s alternative weekly newspaper. As the Hip Hop scene in the CSRA began to grow, there was a clear need for coverage of this emerging culture. However, finding a writer capable of authentically capturing and representing the scene proved to be a challenge.
WHAT I DID
Over the course of several months, after interviewing multiple artists, engaging with the local scene, and speaking with a prominent DJ, I was able to craft a story that captured the essence of the culture. Unflinching and honest, the piece blended historical context with lived experiences and real voices from within the community.
RESULT
The article offered readers a glimpse into a world largely unseen by the mainstream. Presented without embellishment or sugarcoating, it resonated deeply with the audience—so much so that readers began calling the publication to learn where they could hear the featured artists
